The Ontario Laboratory Information Service (OLIS) allows you to search for any lab a patient has had done in Ontario, even if you were not the ordering provider. Many hospital and community labs participate in the service.
Getting Set-Up
a) Registering with eHealth Ontario
To use OLIS, you will need to register with eHealth Ontario either as an individual provider or as part of a clinic. To get that process started, just send a note to support@avaros.ca.
b) Configuring OLIS for each Provider in Avaros
Each healthcare provider (Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Nurses) that has been set-up for OLIS by eHealth Ontario in (a) above, will need to update their User Profile in Administration>User Management>Search/Edit/Delete Provider Records to add their Official First and Last Name, and OLIS Identifier Type (see below).
Running an OLIS Query
To run an OLIS Query for a Patient, from the patient's eChart, hover over the "+" sign beside "Lab Result" and then select "OLIS Search" from the dropdown.
You should now see the OLIS Search view. If you are a healthcare provider, your name should be pre-selected in the "Requesting HIC" field. For support staff, the name of the patient's most responsible provider will be selected in the field. If the healthcare provider requesting the search is not the one listed, in the "Requesting HIC" field, click on the field and select the appropriate provider from the list.
You can adjust the date range of the search in the top date fields, and also search using advanced filters by clicking "Show Advanced Options".
Press "Search" to begin the search.
Managing OLIS Results
After running your query, a list of all matching OLIS Lab Results will be displayed on the left of the Results View with a Lab Preview of the Lab displayed on the right.
For any given lab, or group of labs, you can take one of 3 actions:
- Save - saves the lab to the patient's chart and adds it to the associated provider's inbox for acknowledgement;
- Sign & Save - saves the lab to the patient's chart, but marks it as already acknowledged so that it does not appear in the provider's inbox;
- Delete - marks the lab as deleted so that it does not reapper in future OLIS searches for this patient.
