The table of contents (ToC) in a patient's eChart is a feature designed to make navigation and selection of encounter note entries for the patient, much more efficient. The dreaded "toilette roll" will be a worry of the past.
Where to find the Table of Contents
You can find the ToC in your patient's eChart by navigating to the left-most button in the toolbar above the encounter note section or by using the view toggle found in the top-right of the eChart display.
What is in the Table of Contents View?
The ToC displays the patient's encounter notes on the right side and a condensed version of the notes on the left side. The condensed notes include:
- Dates as dividers between entries
- The number of entries per date
- The type of entry indicated by an icon
- A short blurb of the entry
- The clinic staff member who signoff on the note entry
Much like the encounter notes, the ToC also has a keyword search and date and type filters.
How to use the Table of Contents to find note entries?
Use the filters and key word search at the top of the ToC to quickly refine the encounter notes entries. Once refined, sift through the remaining entries in the ToC and click on entries to instantly view the full corresponding note on the right side of the display.
