Sending referrals to specialists for a patient consultation has never been easier with Avaros. Generate consultations that auto-populate the patient, provider and specialist information and fax directly from the same window. Track what’s completed and manage your specialist listings.
To begin, click the ‘+’ button beside ‘Consultations’ in the patient’s eChart. This will open a new window where the specialist information can be searched and selected from your address book or input manually.
💡 When searching for a specialist, first refine the search by the service category for faster searches.💡
Under the patient and contact information there are a few other information fields that can be filled out if you chose. These include: Reason for Consultation, Pertinent clinical information, Significant concurrent problems, Current Medications and Allergies. Please note that the current medications and allergies section will be auto-populated for you.
Attaching Supporting Documents to a Consultation
To attach any supporting documents to your consultation, select the 'Attach File to Consultation' button in the top left corner of the display.
Once selected, you can preview items by clicking on their names and attach the item by selecting their associated checkbox and then clicking 'Attach'.
When you are done filling in the consultation information, you can sign the consultation at the very bottom of the display, and then have the options to:
- Submit Consultation Request (simply saves the consultation and does not send it)
- Submit Consultation Request and Print Preview
- Submit and Fax
- Send eResponse
All of these commands will also save the consultation to the patient's eChart under consultations.
Tracking Consultation Requests Sent
There are two ways to track and update consultations sent to specialists:
1. Go to the ‘Consultation’ tab from your Schedule Dashboard. This will open up a window where all consultations can be seen.
2. Go to a patient's eChart and select ‘Consultations’ in the left panel to view the patient's consultation history.
💡 Consultations that appear red mean that they have not been responded to in over 2 weeks. Consultations that appear blue mean they have been responded to, or were made less than 2 weeks ago.💡
To update a consultation, select the consultation to open it up. To the left you will see a panel with the following choices:
Based on the update of the consultation, select one of the choices to track the patient's progress in booking the consultation. Next, select either ‘Update Consultation Request’ or ‘Update Consultation Request & Print Preview’ to update the status and save.
💡 Completed indicates the patient has been booked in for the consultation.💡
