When printing an eChart using the Print button in the top-right corner, you may occasionally encounter an error when trying to open the resulting PDF. This is often due to the presence of fillable fields within one or more documents, which cannot always be compiled properly into a PDF.
If you see an error message like the one below when opening the PDF, follow these steps to troubleshoot and work around the issue.
Step 1: Print the eChart Without Documents
- Click the Print button in the top-right corner of the eChart.
- In the print options, deselect the "Documents" option.
- Attempt to print the rest of the eChart.
If this works without error, proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Print the Documents Separately
- Go to the Documents tile within the patient's eChart.
- Select all documents you need to print.
- Click Combine to PDF.
If the PDF is generated successfully, you now have two separate PDFs:
- One containing the eChart (excluding documents)
- One containing the documents
You can send these PDFs separately to the requestor, or upload them to the patient’s eChart and attach them to a consultation.
Step 3: Isolate the Problem Document (If Needed)
If you're still unable to generate a combined PDF of the documents:
- Select smaller groups of documents (e.g., 15 at a time) and try combining to PDF.
- Identify which group fails to open.
- Within that group, open each document individually to locate the one causing the issue.
- Look for fillable forms as they are often the source of the error.
Once you've identified the problematic document, you may need to print or share it separately using a different method.
